Giveaway: Real Food for Rookies Ecourse

Kelly was kind enough to do a brief interview with me for those of you who may not be familiar with Kelly or her journey, let’s take a look at what thoughts she has in response to some questions I asked her recently.

Lydia: Kelly, in a nutshell, since not everyone is familiar with you and your journey, how specifically have you and your family benefited from eating real food?

Kelly: That’s a great question that no one has asked yet, surprisingly.  At the very top of the list is that we just don’t get sick.  Now, I know this could change in the blink of an eye and there are no guarantees in life, but for the past few years we’ll go through each winter (all year actually) with nary a sniffle!
  

Lydia:   Have you seen specific health issues get resolved in you or your kids?

Kelly: Thankfully none of us had health problems, but there is a very noticeable difference in our youngest (who has always eaten real food), compared to the other kids who didn’t get much real food at all when they were real young.  Our oldest struggled with reading and with school in general.  Our next oldest went through a VERY rough stage when he was a toddler – he would have 3 tantrums each day on average and we had SUCH trouble getting him to go to sleep at night – all that changed when we got the junk out of his food!  Our daughter was 2 when we made the switch, so she’s been easier, but our youngest, who has always had real food is SO happy and calm, and learning comes very easy to him.
Lydia: How difficult was the transition for you and your family to real food? What was the hardest part of your transition? And what was the easiest?
Kelly: The easiest was eating all the delicious healthy fats again like butter, tallow, bacon grease for frying, etc.!!

There were a couple difficulties.  First it was tough adapting our favorite recipes to using real food ingredients.  I had a lot of bombs.  I’ll show you everything I’ve learned in the class, because these days I pretty much have it down, except for the occasional food flops that still happen!

The other tricky part was getting our oldest on board, because he really liked his sugar bomb breakfast cereals, eating out a LOT, etc.  He’s 18 now and still complains sometimes!  (Did you see the video with him & I at the grocery store?)

Lydia: Why you think eating real food is so important?

Kelly: Real Food is more powerful than most of us realize.  It can heal us, give us more energy, improve our mood, calm our kids down and help them be able to learn, help us to conceive, I could go on and on and I have stories from my readers of all these things happening!

Lydia: What is your favorite real food cookbook?

Kelly: You know, these days I just don’t use a cookbook that much.  I’ve got all my favorite recipes on the site, so I’ll go on there for something we’ve had before because it has all my notes as far as what was good and how it came out.  I get new recipes online now and then (mostly from real foodie bloggers) and enjoy trying new things.  I did get a Julia Child cookbook a while back and love those recipes because they always come out delicious, and she uses real food!

Lydia: What advice would you give to someone interested in eating more real food?

Kelly: Take my class so you don’t have to be as overwhelmed as I was and mess up so many recipes (and waste $) in the beginning!  If you don’t take the class, then I always tell people to start with what your family eats the most of and begin the transition there.
