Fitness Fridays: Kettlebell Link Love

by lydia on February 24, 2012

If you’ve followed my site or followed Divine Health on Facebook it’s no secret I love my kettlebell workouts. I’ve been working with them for about 2 years now, and I absolutely love them. Today, I want to share some links and info. with you about where you can learn more about kettlebells.

A kettlebell is a cast iron weight that looks like a cannonball with a handle. You do not push and pull a kettlebell, you move with it in a combination of natural movements. As you swing it, pass it from hand to hand, and move around it, you use your entire body in dynamic, rhythmic patterns. It is a graceful way to engage your entire body while you strengthen and condition from head to toe.

Unlike weight training, which isolates one muscle at a time, kettlebell training integrates all your muscles. And that’s a much more efficient way to exercise your body. Every movement gets your heart pumping, increases your metabolism, burns calories, strengthens, and conditions – all at the same time. So you can warm up, work out, and cool down in less than an hour. In fact, kettlebell training is one of the most effective overall fitness regimens available. ~ Skogg System

Skogg System has a pretty good kettlebell home-training DVD series. I’m planning on purchasing them soon! See the video below to get a preview;

I found out about the International Kettlebell and Fitness Federation through Steve Cotter world renowned kettlebell expert, by watching him on Sean Croxton’s Underground Wellness Videos a couple years ago. This site has it all! A forum, an online community, training to get certification to instruct, info. on kettlebell events and more! This is your go to site if you wanna get really serious about training with kettlebells.

Girya Girl is a great site dedicated to the teaching of kettlebells, as well as overall health & fitness. Here is a collection of kettlebell workouts from her site! These are just the workout ideas, you won’t see instructions on how to do the moves unless you join the site subscription. I always google the moves and watch lots of youtube videos to make sure I am doing them right. I often can find videos through Cross Fit. Such as this one;(the windmill move is a current move I am working on)

Dragon Door is another great resource. They have books and DVDS about kettlebell training. This is an awesome resource, especially considering that it is hard to find kettlebell trainers other than the little bit you will get say if you join a local Cross Fit gym.

It’s really important to know how to properly execute each kettlebell move. There are core kettlebell moves that are a foundation to all other moves. Start by learning these well with strict form before you go onto other moves. Make sure you are swinging your bells correctly, have fun with them, but be smart and safe!
