Today, I am bringing you a review of some amazing organic herbal skin care. I’ve been trying out many of the products from my new friend Lori Roop’s etsy shop, L.c. of Acirema (America backwards). Lori’s products are awesome! That’s why I want to share them with you. Not only are you going to learn about these products, but you will also get a chance to win some. Sound good? Let’s get started…..
What is L.c of acirema about?
At L.c of acirema, Lori uses ONLY natural ingredients, avoid synthetic, and prefer certified organic and ethically wildcrafted, beginning from scratch, making only small batches to assure freshness. Of course no animal was harmed to test each product.
From my ongoing education, I work very hard to learn about reputable suppliers, particularly ecologically aware and environmentally conscientious companies, to ensure an exceptional quality for all of my products.
What’s the magic? I first start with all natural cold-pressed and organic or expeller-pressed oils, steering away from solvent-extracted oils. For example, my extra-virgin cold-pressed olive oil. I then add certified organic, certified by Oregon Tilth, ethically wild harvested herbs to the base of the olive oil. I infuse the oil with the herbs by allowing them to bask in the warm Colorado sun for at least 6 weeks. This lets the heat from the sun impart the wonderful medicinal and skin-mending qualities from the herbs right into the base oil! This potent herbal healing oil is now ready to be applied directly to the skin. The remaining oil is used in other delightful creations such as the “Baby Bum and First Aid Salve” or the “Lavender and Virginia Cedarwood Foot Butter”. Then sprinkle some drops of pure essential oils into the mix. Magical? Of course! ~ Lori Roop, owner/founder of l.c of acirema
What l.c. of acirema does not use and why?
At l.c. of acirema, we believe that “all natural” means that every single, last ingredient is natural. Not that the main ingredient is natural and that’s enough. Or even that almost all ingredients are natural, besides the fragrance oil and synthetic preservatives. At l.c. of acirema we use only natural ingredients and that includes our natural preservatives. We are….
- * sulfate/sls-free
- * caprlyl glycol (Optiphen)-free
- * synthetic color-free
- *corn, cottonseed, canola and soybean oil-free
- * petroleum-free
- *Never any mineral oil, no solvent-extracted carrier oils, no Tetra-sodium EDTA, no polysorbate 20 or 80.
- * And no fragrance oils. The term “fragrance” can have up to 4,000 separate chemicals, which the FDA does not require the manufacturer to list. Many of these chemicals are carcinogenic, toxic, or hormone disruptors.
What’s left, you ask?
Natural ingredients as close to what the earth gave us as we could get.
~~~ Try us, your skin will agree.~~~
Non-Toxic, Herbal Skin Care Products I’ve Tried
Mug Preference Facial Oil Cleanser – This product is a moisturizer, and an eye make-up remover. Your mug knows what’s good for it. Vitamin-rich and emollient Sesame oil absorbs UV radiation, copy-cat Jojoba is a look-a-like for the natural moisturizing oil of your skin. And Chamomile and Calendula are super soothing and healing for sensitive mug skin. Use this oil cleanser to dissolve sebum and dirt and still retain the crucial acid mantle on your skin. Carrier oils, such as olive, coconut and sesame, combine with sebum, dissolve the sebum and allow it to be rinsed away. Soap has a high ph, which can dry skin and diminish skin’s life expectancy. This facial oil will leave your skin feeling fantastically soft, silky and supple. Only a small amount is needed per cleanse. That is what I love about this product is that you do not need a lot and a little bottle lasted me forever!
To apply oil as a moisturizer, use only 1 drop, rub hands together briskly and lightly touch your face with your hands. No residual oil should sit on your skin.
Mug Preference Queen of Mug Herbal Toner – l.c. of acirema recommends using Queen of Mug after cleansing your face with “Mug Preference, a facial oil.” Queen of Mug will help astringe, heal, soften and tone the skin. The cleansing alpha-hydroxy acids in Queen of Mug are natural, fruit acids from raw apple cider vinegar. Alpha-hydroxy’s regulate the ph of the skin, which protects that ever so important acid mantle, which in turn protects you from the outside environment and some bacteria. They also cleanse and mildly exfoliate the top layer of skin. Alpha-hydroxy’s mildly exfoliate the skin by dissolving the glue that holds dead skin cells together. This allows the body’s natural emollient oils to reach the surface cells and help moisturize and relieve dryness.
This action helps clear up oily skin and helps remoisturize dry skin. Amazing, isn’t it?! This did not dry out my skin at all and was very gentle. My teenager used it as well and commented on the nice smell -prior to this product we were just using either an apple cider vinegar/water mixuture, or Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Oil pads (which I found to be kind of harsh).
Mug Paste – Herbs and honey, baby! Raw, Colorado honey mixed with skin-healing and naturally antiseptic herbs and nutrients mildly exfoliate dead skin to leave room for a smooth new face. Apply, gently scrub and let this mask sit on your skin AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. The longer the herbs, nutrients and enzyme-rich honey are in contact with your skin, the better they can impart their healing magic! Then gently wipe or scrub the mask off your skin. Good for your face, decolletage, elbows, heels, etc.
Lori’s favorite personal method for using this product; In the shower, after shampooing and applying conditioner to leave in for 10-15 minutes, I then apply “Mug Paste” to my face and gently scrub and exfoliate. I then leave the “Mug Paste” on while I shave my legs. This allows the “Mug Paste” to be applied to my face as long as possible. I then wash off the “Mug Paste”, rinse the conditioner out of my hair, and hop out of the shower! I then apply “Cuddle Me Herbal Baby Oil” to the entirety of my body. Using “Cuddle Me Herbal Baby Oil” right after the shower provides for maximum absorption, since my pores have been steamed open from a warm shower. I think this was my favorite facial product by far – plus it’s pretty affordable! I tend to be a ‘hurried’ groomer if you will -so I often found that if I only had little time for a ‘facial’ this would be the product I would use!
Pop/Skin Revitalizing Lotion – I love this product too (maybe it’s a toss up with the Mug Paste). A soothing, silky eye treatment lotion that many of my customers love to use for their entire face! Chock full of herbal extracts and nutrients, all designed to firm and repair eye area or facial skin. I loved using it around my eye area! And, a little bottle goes a long way!
Dragon Juice – Okay, I simply cannot swoon enough about this tea blend! It truly is to-die-for-good! Seriously, everyone should at least try it once in their life before they die! I shared this tea with countless people – people who were soda drinkers mind you – and they all LOVED it! And, believe me, I really tried to replicate this blend at home but came nowhere close to it’s awesomeness. Lori created dragon juice as a natural and healthy alternative to kool-aid or juice for my kids. I specifically made dragon juice to have a natural bright red color, a lively citrusy taste and of course, to be chock full of nutritive value! It turned out awesome! As these are all tonic herbs, that means they are great for everyday use. It is deliciously tasty hot or cold. All of my kids LOVED this tea! They literally got excited about it and when I ran out they begged me to get more. They still talk about it even when I’m out of it. It will definitely be a regular purchase for us!
Thai Ginger Scented Hair & Body Herbal Oil – What I love about this oil is the scent! It’s amazing and unusual too! Not your typical body oil. It has SO many uses too. Use it as a scalp massage oil, a body oil, cuticle oil, massage lotion, bath oil. I’ve seriously even used it in my armpits as a pseudo deodorant, because I had it on hand. It’s portable and convenient too!
Baby Bum & Boo Boo Salve – I don’t have any babies in the house, but I do have 4 boys who all seem to come to me with boo boo’s of all shapes and sizes. I swear my teenager is gonna be one big walking scar one day! That child manages to always have a gash somewhere on his body, or a missing chunk of skin. This is a side effect of having boys – lots and lots of wounds! Anyway, this boo boo salve has come in handy far more times than I can count. It is even very gentle on my dry hands that are prone to eczema! I love it and I honestly do not want to be without it. I have two containers, a small one for on the go and a big one for home.
I can’t wait to try more of Lori’s products as well! Excellent quality and she usually sends a little sample with each order. All nicely packaged with instructions on how to utilize each product.
