Perhaps you’ve heard that juicing is a super healthy thing to do and are on the fence about getting started. Maybe, you even watched the documentary; ‘Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead’ and decided by golly I’ve gotta start juicing. If you are still asking yourself the question; ‘Should I Try Juicing?‘, let me help you make your decision.
I think there is a smart way to juice, that does not involve fasting. I don’t think fasting is the a healthy option for most people. There are several reasons for that, two big ones are; 1) most people do not have balanced blood sugar and 2) most people today are carrying a lot of toxic waste in their bodies (myself included).
Why does that matter? If you do not have balanced blood sugar, doing a juice fast is not a good idea. Most juices contain a lot of concentrated sugars with no fiber or fat to slow down their absorption. It would actually be a better idea to use a small amount of juice as a part of your meal, OR turn your juice into more of a smoothie with some added fat to help you assimilate all the nutrients and keep your blood sugar from spiking. Also, a straight juice fast can cause one to detoxify too quickly and this can be risky. It can also be extremely uncomfortable.
I recommend adding juicing in to your diet as a supplemental practice rather than as a fast. There may be a time to do a juice fast however for the most part I don’t think it’s a good idea.

Juicing: The Basics
First off, I’m going to point you to my good friend and colleague, Melanie Christner’s post Juicing 101: Why Do It, Which Juicers Are Best, Recipes To Try. She dishes out some great info. and the best juicers to look for if you are ready to get into juicing.
I personally think juicing is a wonderful complement to a healthy diet. I myself juice on occasion when it fits the budget. I feel it helps me to easily assimilate some extra nutrients and seems to help balance my energy, hormones and sleep.

Juice Recipes to Try
Below I’ve included a small compilation of some juice recipes you can try out, but first I want to share my favorite juice recipe currently.
1-2 medium organic beets (include the top and a bit of the stems if possible)
6-7 organic medium carrots
1/2 bunch organic parsley
1 inch chunk of fresh ginger root
I like to push the parsley through with a carrot, as well as the lemon. Play around with the ingredients a bit to get it just how you like it. I sometimes add a large dollop of coconut cream that I blend in with my immersion blender. This recipe is particularly excellent for the liver and gallbladder. Enjoy!
