Summer is my favorite time of the year to enjoy fruit. I love to take the boys to a local orchard and pick every fruit as it is in season.
This past week we went to Indian Orchards to pick peaches and blueberries. The bees were busy enjoying the peaches too, so we had to pick carefully. I certainly don’t blame them. When we got the peaches home we enjoyed some fresh, some in my baked peach oatmeal and froze some sliced up to have on hand for easy recipes. One of those being my peach frozen yogurt.
Homemade frozen yogurt could not be any easier to make. Skip the store bought stuff and whip some up at home next time. You’ll be sure to get far more nutrition, plus the satisfaction of making your own.
Here is my recipe made from the peaches we picked at Indian Orchards and yogurt from Pequea Valley Farms ( a local grass fed dairy farm) and Honey from Walt’s Swarmbustin’ Honey (also local to us).
- 4 cups frozen sliced peaches
- 4 cups plain yogurt (from grass fed cows)
- ⅓ cup local raw honey or maple syrup
- 2 Tbsp. vanilla extract
- Pinch of good quality sea salt
- Puree in food processor or blender until smooth.
- Add to your ice cream maker according to manufacture directions.
- When finished place in a bowl in the freezer for an additional hour or two to firm up before serving. Super easy!
This is for those of you who can tolerate dairy and have an ice cream maker (here is the one I have). In the summer I like to make frozen treats/desserts several times per week. It’s a great way to end the day and believe it or not, the boys sleep in a bit when they have a healthy dessert after dinner -BONUS for me! I hope you enjoy this simple summer treat!
