Are Excess Toxins In Your Water Supply Contributing To Weight Gain?

by lydia on September 29, 2015

Water quality is such a conundrum today…it’s a problem for sure. One that we can only do our best to resolve in our own homes as best as we can. Unfortunately, water can have a number of toxins in it and must be filtered to ensure we are avoiding them. Water is our number one nutrient, and if contains toxicity, it will have a negative effect on our liver that can lead to weight gain if the liver cannot clear it all out well.

Excess Toxins- In Your Water Supply

The water we drink is supposed to remove wastes and toxins from the body, however, if we aren’t careful we could be drinking toxic water.

The quality of municipal tap water is questionable. There are reports that indicate many municipal water authorities are in violation of clean water standards.

Significant levels of both organic and inorganic chemicals have been found in municipal supplies, such as pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, lead and not to mention chlorine and fluoride. Keep in mind that fluoride and chlorine have a detrimental effect on the thyroid gland. Problems with the thyroid can cause your metabolism to slow way down making it even harder to lose weight. Read more Fluoride and Hypothyroidism.

These pollutants create a risk for many health problems and create yet another thing for our livers to detoxify. It is critical to drink enough quality water daily (about half your weight in ounces per day) as well as to make sure you are drinking the purest water possible.

The best options are reverse osmosis with minerals added back in, charcoal filtering and deionization. I also like Spring Water, as it is naturally rich in minerals if you can find one that you can see actually testing results or run them yourself. I believe Crystal Geiser Spring Water is one good option.

The Big Berkey water filter is a good option as it has fluoride filters and is pretty affordable too. They have sports bottles you can take with you – I send these with my kids to school to make sure they are drinking filtered water at school. Keep in mind to look for quality shower filters as well, better yet look for whole house water filtration systems (like this one).

Other Heavy Metals & Contaminants that can Pollute Your Water:

  • Arsenic
  • Cadmium
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Pesticide residues
  • Pharmaceutical residues
  • Illegal drug residues (you read that right!)
  • Hormones

Egads! Water is the #1 thing we consume and expose our bodies to daily in our own homes. It is so important to come up with solutions to ensure it’s as clean as possible.
