Okay, clearly you know where my priorities lie. Because I wrote a Valentine’s post before talking about the Super Bowl. It goes to show you how much of a sports fan I am. Nevertheless, I do want to make sure I share some fabulous food ideas for those of you want to keep it healthy during the big game.
My older teenager usually has a few friends over and we enjoy some good eats. Since the game this year doesn’t involve our local favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles, it is going to be pretty low key for my friends and family. We will watch and I will catch the occasional commercial for a good laugh.
Since I have even less interest than someone who generally watches football, I plan to make a few key appetizers and dishes that will appease those who want to sit in front of the TV for four hours. I keep it on the ‘healthier’ side while indulging a bit in the typical party fair. An example would be, buying organic root beer and making my own nachos. We can still have some fun without all the side effects from junkier food. Below are some of my favorite recipes and essential party items.
Healthy Super Bowl Food
- Asian Chicken Wings
- Curried Deviled Eggs or Deviled Eggs Sans Mayo
- Grass fed Beef Chili serve with my Avocado Lime Dip and some organic blue corn tortilla chips.
- Jalapeño Poppers for the more adventurous cook
- Homemade Ranch Dip with some veggies
- Hot Artichoke & Goat Cheese Dip
To make this event extra special, I plan to make this Root Beer Float from The Organic Kitchen. It looks amazing, doesn’t it? I promised the boys this one, but I do have ulterior motives (I want one too)! It uses Virgil’s root beer, which I can get at Trader Joe’s along with some vanilla ice cream that is RBGH free.
